When Should Children Visit the Dentist?

Dentists recommend that children begin going to the dentist within 6 months of getting their first tooth. Most children get their first teeth around 6 months, so they should first visit the dentist when they are about 1 year old.

If your child is older than 1 year and hasn’t been to the dentist yet, you should schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Our dentists will ensure your child’s teeth and gums are healthy and on the right track to maintain a healthy smile.

How to Promote Good Oral Hygiene Habits in Children

By instilling good oral hygiene habits in your child from a young age, you can help them keep their teeth healthy for life. Your child will learn how to care for their teeth and know what to expect at regular dental appointments. Our dentists recommend bringing your child to our office for a dental cleaning and exam once every 6 months.

In addition to regular cleanings and exams, you should help your child practice good habits at home. Your child should brush and floss their teeth twice per day. When they are young, you should assist them to ensure their teeth are cleaned thoroughly.

If you have additional questions about your child’s dental hygiene habits, talk to our dentists. We can offer tips and tricks to make toothbrushing easier and make other suggestions to promote dental hygiene from a young age.
