Consultation
This is the initial consultation with an Invisalign-certified dentist. During this visit, your doctor will inspect your teeth and mouth, take an X-ray, and make impressions of your teeth. They will also discuss your treatment goals. After that, they will prepare a tailor-made treatment plan, together with a 3D image indicating how your teeth will move. If your doctor decides that Invisalign is a good fit for you, then they will have your custom aligners ordered.
Receiving Your Aligners
Once your doctor has ordered your aligners, lab fabrication generally takes about two weeks. When ready, you will return to your doctor’s office to pick them up. Invisalign technicians will review how to wear the aligners to achieve straighter teeth.
Wearing Your Aligners
You will have to wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day, only removing them for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. Over time, while wearing a set, your teeth will slowly shift into place. Typically, you wear one set for two weeks before moving on to the next set.
Monitoring Your Progress
You should see your doctor every six weeks or so to check on your progress and treatment outcome.
The Results
After your treatment is finished, you will be provided with a retainer that you must wear according to your doctor’s instructions to maintain your new smile. In some cases, this may mean wearing it all the time for several months or just at night while sleeping.
