Dental alveolar inflammation, also known as alveolar osteitis or “dry socket,” often occurs after a dental extraction procedure. This procedure, more formerly known as exodontia or tooth removal, is performed to treat a variety of medical conditions such as tooth decay, dental caries (cavities), gingivitis, and other severe gum disease. Teeth are also extracted for cosmetic reasons, such as fitting braces. In the past, the teeth of institutionalized and mentally unstable individuals were also extracted; it was believed that this procedure would aid in the treatment of mental illness.

Designed specifically to offer protection for the teeth, different night guards provide better results because of the materials and procedures used to fabricate them. These differences are clearly noticeable if you compare different night guard styles (store-bought versus made-by-a-dentist versions) on your own. However, there’s no need to go out and buy two different night guards so that you can form an opinion as to which type is going to be best for your needs. It’s simpler to look at a portrayal of the advantages of night guards made by dentists over the ones that you can purchase in the store.

Since your dentist could end up performing major procedures on your teeth and gums, you will want to find the right dentist. If you don’t have the right dentist, any dental fears that you have may be magnified, or you may just find yourself worrying about whether certain treatments will be properly performed. Here are four major signs that you have found the right dentist.
1) You feel comfortable discussing anything to do with your oral health
You know you’ve found the right dentist if you feel entirely comfortable being candid about your worries (even if they relate to anxieties about bad breath or awkward reasons why a tooth has been damage). For example, you will want to feel like your dentist is not judgmental, and like she can give suggestions in a helpful and constructive way. If you find yourself worrying about what your dentist will think if you are honest about a particular problem, you may not have found the right dentist.

There are many risk factors for colorectal cancer, including family history, diet, age, obesity, and smoking. However, recent research has suggested that dental health could also be a factor.
The Dangers of Colorectal Cancer
Colorectal cancer, also known as bowel cancer, occurs when cells in the colon or rectum begin to grow into a tumour. This growth can cause symptoms such as constipation or pain, and the cancer can also spread to other parts of the body as cells begin to break off and travel through the blood to other organs. Colorectal cancer has a high mortality rate unless it is detected early.
How is Dental Health Related to Bowel Cancer?
The mouth and the bowel might feel like completely separate parts of the body, but scientists have suggested that bacteria from the mouth might be involved in the development of bowel cancer. A type of bacteria known as fusobacteria has been found in tumours in the bowel, raising the question of whether these bacteria are responsible for causing the cancer to develop.

Often referred to as the third molars, wisdom teeth are the last of the permanent teeth to erupt through the gums. Quite often, there isn’t enough room to accommodate these teeth, making wisdom teeth removal a necessary dental procedure for many people. Patients experiencing problems with the third molars between the ages of 17 and 25 typically have them removed by a dentist or oral surgeon.
Wisdom Teeth Removal: When Is It Necessary?
Unless the jaw has enough room to allow the wisdom teeth to grow in properly, most dentists will recommend having them taken out. When there isn’t enough room, these molars do not come in properly. Sometimes, they emerge in a sidewise direction, exerting pressure on the existing arch of teeth. This can cause these teeth to become crooked and uneven in appearance. Wisdom teeth removal is recommended to prevent this from happening.
Additionally, the risk of infection is also present when the third molars fail to erupt completely. It becomes difficult to keep them clean, and plaque begins to build up. This increases the risk of caries (dental decay) as well as infection. Due to this possibility, wisdom teeth removal becomes the prudent thing to do.
