How Do I Improve My Dental Health?

With research showing the importance of the mouth-to-body connection, it becomes even more apparent that it is necessary to improve dental health and keep your teeth and gums healthy in order to promote better overall health. Finding ways to encourage a cleaner mouth and incorporating all of them into your routine can make a big difference in your life and improve dental health.

Improve Dental Health by Strengthening Your Daily Oral Care Routine

It’s important to brush teeth at a 45-degree angle for two minutes at least twice a day if you want to improve dental health. Choose fluoride-enhanced toothpaste and a soft-bristled or power toothbrush. Choose an alcohol-free mouthwash to avoid drying up the saliva that prevents bacteria from growing.

 

Rather than waiting until your next dental appointment, replace your toothbrush/toothbrush head every three months. As your toothbrush ages, bacteria begins to collect on it. Once this happens, you expose your teeth, gums, and tongue to new supplies of bacteria each time you brush your teeth. Moreover, the bristles begin to lose their effectiveness, so replacing your toothbrush regularly will help to improve dental health.

 

Daily flossing is perhaps the most important strategy needed to improve dental health. The more you do it, the stronger your gums will become as you constantly clear away food particles and bacteria.

 

Improve Dental Health as You Switch to Healthier Foods and Beverages

Certain foods and beverages are more damaging to the teeth than others, so you should avoid them as much as possible if you want to improve dental health. Avoid processed foods since they contain refined sugars and flours.

 

Eliminate soda and sugary sports drinks from your diet as much as possible. When you do drink sugary beverages, use a straw to minimize exposure to your front teeth.

 

Eliminate candy and sugary snacks from your diet as much as possible to improve dental health. Brush your teeth or chew sugar-free gum if you cannot get to your toothbrush.

 

To improve dental health, choose unprocessed grains, fruits, and vegetables whenever possible. Start taking a daily multi-vitamin to stimulate your immune system, promoting its ability to fight off dental bacteria.
